On July 15, 2022, TBM Dame whina Cooper made a breakthrough in karangahape. This marks the completion of the excavation of the Auckland connecting line project in the urban area of Auckland.
The Auckland link is located at a depth of 32 meters below Auckland City. It will double the rail transit capacity in this direction by connecting Mt Eden and Britomart. So as to alleviate the problem of insufficient transportation capacity in the region. After the completion of tunnel excavation, there are still 3 stations under construction in the project.
